Although many of us at Coafrica don’t get to be present for the construction of our schools, we are overjoyed at the news of each project. As we recently began a new project in Togo’s Primary School of Melly-Dome, we wanted to rejoice with you.
The previous School of Melly-Dome in the Southern tip of Togo held eleven classes, two of which were taught outdoors. Mainly due to the lack of facilities, thousands of school age children did not attend, and the waitlist for attendance was 150 students long.
Although there is still a long way to go, our project will open spots for an additional 200 students, bringing the total school enrollment to north of 800 children.
On January 10th, parents, students, teachers, and government leaders gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony. During the ceremony, the head teacher, a community leader, and government officials addressed the audience.
Young student leaders prepared speeches as well!
With the ground being broken, instruments played, dances performed, hands clapped, and connections made, the ceremony looked like an event brimming with excitement and joy. We are ready to take on construction!
