Location: Pahou Ouidah, Benin Republic
Project scope: 4 classrooms
Impacted Children: ~ 2500 students
Timeline: May 2024 – October 2024
Community Involvement: Unskilled labor, clean up, security
Coalition: Build a School Initiative in Africa
Background: This school was created in 2005. Initial school structures were built by the Japanese embassy and the Lion Club Emerode, but the student population quickly outgrew the space and more students move in to the area each year. Lacking government resources, the parents and community have build shelters to accommodate the students. Before construction, the school still had a 750 student wait list. We hope these additional classrooms will help move students into proper durable classrooms and provide space for more students to attend school.
