Classrooms for Mitembo: A Year in the Making
Because of your generosity on Giving Tuesday last year, new classrooms at Mitembo Primary School are now a reality.
Located near a refugee camp, the school had been in desperate need of safe, permanent classrooms. Children were eager to learn, but the infrastructure simply didn’t exist to support them. Thanks to you, that changed. Your donations helped turn an urgent need into a place of opportunity, stability, and hope.
A Celebration to Remember
While visiting Mitembo Primary School in October, we had the honor of celebrating the official classroom handover with the local community. The day was marked by heartfelt speeches, joyful songs, traditional performances, and plenty of dancing. The atmosphere was electric. Pride and hope radiated from everyone present — students, teachers, parents, and community leaders alike.
In a deeply moving gesture of gratitude, the community presented us with chickens and a bag of tomatoes. It was a beautiful and humbling symbol of appreciation and sacrifice, reminding us that generosity is not measured by abundance, but by heart.
A Little Extra Joy
In preparation for our trip, we were also able to raise a bit of extra funding to bring soccer balls and netballs to donate to the school. What happened next is something we’ll never forget.
Imagine a child on Christmas morning — eyes wide, smile unstoppable, pure delight taking over their entire face. That’s exactly what we witnessed. The joy and awe on the children’s faces were boundless as they received the sports equipment.
Thank You for Making It Possible
From classrooms to celebrations, from education to play, none of this would have been possible without you. Your Giving Tuesday support didn’t just build a school — it created moments of joy, dignity, and opportunity that will last for years to come.
Thank you for believing in these students, for investing in their futures, and for being part of this unforgettable journey.
