With a waitlist of 356 students and a dilapidated building, CEG Soyo Secondary School desperately needed access to new classrooms.
However, we are excited to announce that on June tenth, we finished classrooms to suit 320 additional students!
Isn’t the difference drastic?
Eight days after completion, the community of Allada, Benin Republic gathered for a handover ceremony.
There, our project coordinator, Victor, described that students “were filled with joy and happiness.” Dressed in bright colors, they performed cultural dances, tapped drums to a rhythmic beat, and clapped their hands.
Additionally, participants enjoyed speeches by the mayor, head teacher, director of schools, chief, and BASIA.
At the end of the ceremony, Victor and other leaders cut a ribbon wrapped around the school in symbolism of a new beginning. We’re excited to see where this beginning takes us!
