The Kataya School handover ceremony in Lilongwe, Malawi, has been postponed over and over again due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Construction has been complete for a few months, and finally at the end of April, 2021, the community got to participate in the handover ceremony for their new school.

The handover ceremony included speeches from the Principal, Africa’s local coordinator, and community leaders.
The students also participated in cultural dances and performances to celebrate the opening of their new school!

This school includes 4 new classrooms, as well as offices and rooms for the staff and administration. It accommodates 320 children, creating space for students who previously did not have a place in a classroom. We can’t wait to see how the village grows and progresses as more local children get to receive an education!
