Location: Cococodji district of Godomey in the commune of Abomey-Calavi, Benin
Project scope: 4 classrooms
Impacted Children: 500 students
Timeline: January 2022 – April 2022
Community Involvement: Slight financial contribution, labor, clean-up, maintenance
Coalition: Build a School in Africa
Background: Located in an urban area of Benin, CEG Le Meridien has been operating for 26 years. When our project coordinator traveled to Benin to visit CEG Le Meridien, he noticed that the school was crumbling–half-finished walls, unusable desks, and a roof barely held up by uneven logs made for extremely unsafe classroom conditions. Because of this, 39 classes were being taught outside. There is great need in this area for additional classrooms, with massive amounts of out-of-school children because of inability to pay school fees and the lack of access to a facility. This project with provide 4 additional classrooms for the community, impacting around 500 children!
